Frustrated with the multi-talented singer, someone once told Omari "A chameleon changes its colors but not its shapes..."  He's been defying that statement ever since.

Singer.  Actor.  Composer.  Director.  Educator.
Opera.  Jazz.  Avant-garde. Musical Theater.  Soul.  R&B.

Sacramento, California native Omari Tau attributes much of his vocal style to the influence of the church, but his in-depth study of classical voice, composition, education and contemporary vocal interpretation have also shaped him greatly.  After attending the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas, Tau pursued his Bachelor's degree in Music Education at Michigan State University where he studied voice with baritone Harlan Jennings and was also encouraged to study choral conducting and composition.  He then got his Master of Music in Vocal Performance at the University of Houston Moores School of Music studying opera with director Buck Ross and classical voice with mezzo-soprano Katherine Ciesinski.

While In Houston, Omari led Houston Grand Opera's Opera To Go!  He also worked with Theatre Under The Stars, the Tony Award winning Alley Theatre and many other theatre organizations while simultaneously transitioning into more jazz and soul styles.  He began collaborating with artists in the Houston area which led to the beginning of his recording career.

Soon he joined the Disney family and began touring in their production of The Lion King where he performed for nearly 9 years!  Omari is currently back in Sacramento working on his next musical venture!
